Maria Carmella Bertone, passed away peacefully on July 23, 2024 at the age of 77 years old after a long battle with Parkinson’s disorder.  A retired school teacher, Maria dedicated her life to taking care of her family and her students.  Born to Nazzarena (Savo) and Vincent Testani on July 15th, 1947, in Bridgeport, CT, she was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend.‍

Maria was a cherished member of the Testani family, sister to Donna (Al) Bagoly and Tina (Thomas) Bundock. In 1972, she married her beloved Ignatius Bertone, marking the beginning of a shared life filled with love and devotion for 51 years.

A graduate of Notre Dame High School in 1966 and Sacred Heart University in 1971, Maria dedicated her life to education. For over 30 years, she was a revered Special Education Teacher in both Bridgeport and Monroe CT, where her passion for teaching children left an indelible mark on her students.

‍Maria’s love extended to her two children, Marissa (James) Vallillo and Anthony Bertone, who will always remember her nurturing soul. Her three grandchildren, John, Amelia, and Madeline will carry her legacy of kindness and giving.

An avid shopper, lover of the Bahamas and Caribbean Islands were just a few of her passions.  Maria was a dedicated grandmother that experienced a lot of joy from her grandchildren.

Predeceased by her parents, Maria’s memory will be cherished and kept alive by her husband Ignatius, her children, grandchildren, sister Donna and Tina, and a community that was better for her presence.
