To the Bertone Family: With my deepest sympathy. I was saddened to hear of Maria’s passing. I had the pleasure of working with her for many years at Masuk High School. She was an asset to the classroom and students. Maria was a wonderful colleague, and a great friend. I will always cherish the memories.

Mr. Bertone I offer sincere condolences on the loss of your wife. I was not surprised to hear your spouse was also a teacher and I thank you both for the knowledge you sowed into the lives of so many. Your success in sharing the sciences and making it fun, led me to a nursing career and lifelong interest in astronomy. May the hope of a heavenly reunion sustain your family through the loss. María was our neighbor for many years. She and Bob were the first ones to open the door to their house when we moved to this town 32 year ago. Always welcoming, happy and funny, she would always make us laugh with her stories. We will always cherished her memories.
