Obituary of Anna M. Burke

Anna Margaret O’Connell Burke (“Sis”) of Trumbull, passed away on April 30, 2018 in Raleigh, NC.  Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Helen O’Connell.  Survivors include her sons, Jack and his wife Debra of Raleigh, NC, Michael of Bloomington, IL, Patrick of Trumbull, a daughter, Erin of New York, NY, her granddaughter Meredith, and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John (Jack) and her brothers Daniel O’Connell and Robert O’Connell.

Anne was a graduate of Rankin High School and Duff’s Business Institute in Pittsburgh.  After graduation, she spent her winters working in Pittsburgh and summers waitressing at the Top Hat in Virginia Beach.  Anne later worked for five years as a civilian at the U.S. Naval Communication Station Norfolk (Comm 5), where she met her husband Jack, a Marine who had just returned from serving in Korea.  They were happily married for 53 years, living in Pittsburgh, Tarrytown, NY, Adrian, MI, and finally Trumbull.

Anne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. She would do anything for her children. She was a wonderful cook, avid reader, antiques enthusiast, and a sports fan, who was devoted to the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees, and UCONN Women’s Basketball.  She was proud of, and had a keen interest in, her Irish heritage. She attended many Clancy Brothers concerts with Jack, and realized a lifelong dream by visiting Ireland twice with her family.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Avenue, Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. There will be no calling hours.
