Obituary of Joan Messemer

Joan McGroary Messemer, age 76, of Trumbull, beloved wife of Robert Messemer, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 23, 1936, in the Bronx, New York she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Gertrude Maloney McGroary. Joan graduated from the Lady Cliff Academy, Highland Falls, NY and then went on to earn a Bachelors Degree in Marketing from Fordham University. A very magnetic and influential person, she went on to have a successful business career, having been formerly employed by Blair Advertising, National Sales Executives and the National Industrial Conference Board. After a fulfilling career in business, she went on to care for and raise a family. She dedicated herself to the love and care of her husband and children. Her family was the center of her life; Joan took great enjoyment in the many family vacations and traveled extensively with her husband. A wonderful cook, she always treasured the many family gatherings and loved when her children and especially her grandchildren were all together. She was a giving person who was always there to lend a helping hand and always had time to sit and listen to someone who just needed a helpful ear. The memories and family values she passed on will continue to live on through her family, she will truly be missed. In addition to her devoted husband of 52 years, Robert, survivors include four loving children, Marianne Uus of Trumbull, Robert Messemer and his wife Nancy of Shelton, Michael Messemer and his wife Lisa of Orlando, FL and Karen Cook and her husband Bill of Oxford, nine cherished grandchildren, Michael and Emily Uus, Katie, Kelly and Brian Messemer, Grace and Sarah Messemer and Samantha and Riley Cook; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas McGroary and a son-in-law, Erik Uus. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
