Obituary of Frederick W. Marshall

Resident of Trumbull Frederick W. Marshall, age 82, of Trumbull, died on Friday, June 15, 2007 in St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on January 23, 1925, he was the first child of the late Frederick L. and Dorothy Hobson Marshall. He was a graduate of Harding High School, class of 1943, where he played baseball and football. Fred was an outstanding end on the football team, making all district his senior year. A U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the North Atlantic and the Pacific. He worked in Remington Arms, Singer and Bridgeport Brass, retiring from Sikorsky. He attended Arnold College in Milford and played for the Stratford Rockets semi-pro football team. He was team captain from 1949 to 1951. He started the Stratford College All Stars along with Frank McNamara, Bob Dobesten, John Longo, John DiMenna, Frank DeZenzo, Bob Castle and Al Sardilli. Starting in 1954, he operated the Circle Esso Gas Station on the Post Road in Fairfield with his brother-in-law, Tom Allis until 1965, when they purchased the Trumbull Shell on Main St. He was a member of the Trumbull Exchange Club, the American Legion A.V. Napolitano Post #141, Trumbull, Stratford V.F.W. Post 9460, the Bridgeport and Stratford Old Timers A.A. Fred received the athletic award Golden Crown in 1984 and the Jack Geary achievement award in 1999 and the Tim Ramik Citizens award in 2002. Fred also coached the Trumbull Rangers Pop Warner Football team from 1971 to 1975 along with Bill Meade, Head Coach, and Lou and Bill Kiley. They went to Florida twice with the team. He loved his wife Sophie, his children and grandchildren very much. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. He was pre-deceased by a beloved son, Frederick F. Marshall and a brother, Eugene Marshall. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sophie Garby Marshall, a daughter, Christine Ann Marshall Abramson and her husband, Richard of Trumbull, a sister, Elaine Allis of Georgia, two grandsons, Frederick Michael Marshall and Brian Marshall Boyd and several nieces and nephews. Growing up in the east end of Bridgeport his best friends were Mario Ponsalle, Ken Cave and Frank DeZenzo. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 10:30 am in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:30 am in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.
