Obituary of Joseph D. Mitri Sr.

Joseph D. Mitri, Sr., age 92, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Helen Beck Mitri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. Born in Beirut, Lebanon on January 25, 1932, he was a son of the late Damian Mitri and Katrina Ejel Mitri. Joe married his wife Helen in 1956, and in 1957, they moved to Trumbull, where they raised their family.

Joe went to St. Joseph's French Boarding and Trade School, where he learned his trade of architectural woodworking. He used that trade for many years at Burritts Lumber, where he designed and milled custom cabinetry. Joe also managed an acrylic company for 15 years before retiring.

After Joe retired, he spent his time traveling worldwide with his wife, Helen, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his loving three sons, Joseph D. Mitri, Jr., and his wife, Alice, Daniel Mitri, and Louis Mitri, and his wife, Regina, seven grandchildren, Christopher (Melissa), Thomas (Amy), Michael (Denise), Jonathan, Jennifer, Rachel (Agustin) and Nicole. Joe is also survived by his brothers, John (Souad), Christo (Mary), his sister, Guita Nissan, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and his wife, Joe was predeceased by his daughter Joanne, a brother Mitri and grandson-in-law, Justin.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM directly in St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church, 5458 Park Avenue, Bridgeport with Father Romanos Maloof officiating. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. directly in the church.
