Obituary of Carl A. Massaro Sr.
Carl A. Massaro Sr., age 99, of Fairfield, beloved husband of the late Dorothy Lupariello Massaro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Hartford on May 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Anthony and Antoinette Lettieri Massaro.
A member of the greatest generation, Dad served as a Radioman First Class on a landing craft during the Battle of Okinawa in WWII. After completing his military service, he earned a bachelor's degree in pharmacy from the University of Connecticut, where he met Dorothy, the love of his life. Together, they owned and operated Lupe's Drugstore #3 of Fairfield and provided the community with professional and personal service for nearly 65 years.
Dad was a man of great faith, which was embodied in his dedication, love, and sacrifice for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in raising his family and supported them in everything they set out to do. They were his greatest treasures, and he was theirs.
Survivors include five loving children: Carl Massaro Jr. and his wife, the Honorable Barbara Brazzel-Massaro of Trumbull; Carla Massaro and her wife, Jodi Schaschl, of Fairfield; Craig Massaro and his wife, Lisa, of Fairfield; Christopher Massaro Sr. of Monroe and his significant other, Kimberly Murphy; and Cal Massaro and his wife, Christine, of Fairfield. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Larry Landini, and eleven cherished grandchildren: Gina Jakober (Erich), Joseph Landini (Jessica), Carissa Massaro-Edwards (Richie), Caci Flom (Elliott), Brandon (Lindsey), Nicolette, Sara, Olivia, Christopher Jr., Daniel, and Matthew. Additionally, he leaves behind five adored great-grandchildren: Nathan, Justin, Angelo, Christian, and Nina, as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Christa Massaro Landini; daughter-in-law, Maral Kehkejian Massaro; and siblings, Jerry Massaro, Caroline Santacroce, Angie Keane, and Ann Spinelli.
Dad was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Fairfield University Men's Basketball, and UConn Women's Basketball. He enjoyed books, movies, wood-working, and relished his retirement time in Florida. He loved Sinatra and Broadway—he was even a bit of a thespian himself! Dad also took great pleasure in playing cards, keeping his pool immaculate, and enjoying a bowl of pasta fagioli. In recent years, he found joy spending time with friends at the Bigelow Senior Center.
Special thanks to his aides, Simone and Leca, whose care and love gave him great security and comfort.
