When we moved to Easton years ago, Steve and Andrea were one of the first to welcome us to town. We'll remember Steve as a fun and kind friend and neighbor and he will be deeply missed. Our sympathies to the Rowland family and to the Vitale family, you are in our prayers.

Around my Junior year of high school a friend (Zach Upton) and I decided to start a "landscaping business" with essentially no experience. We were lucky enough to be hired on by Steve and Senora Rowland (our Spanish teacher at the time). Steve had big plans to renovate the house, patio area, deck and parts of the lawn. Not once did he doubt our ability to accomplish the tasks he'd give us each day. He had the patience to explain (and oftentimes re-explain) each step in great detail as we tackled work that went well beyond basic landscaping. Not once was he frustrated with any of the many mistakes or missteps we had along the way (and trust me there were many- like when we removed all of Mrs. Rowlands freshly planted flower buds thinking they were weeds). Steve would often work alongside us talking about life or football; our playing days at Barlow and how they compared. As a Steeler fan myself, and Steve a dedicated Browns fan, there was of course plenty of healthy trash talk. I will always remember the day that he insisted that I call him "Steve" instead of "Mr. Rowland". I still recall those days, those conversations with Steve, all of those memories with a smile on my face.
I ended up working for Steve and his family for about 4 years through high school and into my college years. I had a number of friends in need of work also join the effort. To which Steve never had doubts or concerns. I learned more practical skills and gained more confidence in those years working for Steve than any other jobs I've had since.
Steve and his entire family treated me better than anyone could hope for. They treated me like one of their own from the very beginning. I think it's important to say that, particularly in the high school years, while I was recovering from a severe head injury, this meant more to me than they could ever know.
It comes as no surprise at all that at the time of his passing, he was helping someone in need.
My heart breaks for all of Steve's family and friends. My heart is heavy and will be for quite some time. The world lost a great, great man.
Rest in Peace Steve.
With love and deepest condolences,
-Mike McGowan

Steve and I met in high school. We were not particularly close at the time. He was several years behind me.
By chance we happen to meet in a hotel elevator in Europe. Steve has a very distinctive voice. It rang a familiar bell in my mind. Where are you from? A small town of Connecticut. What town? Easton. I’m from Easton. We shared a few memories, one very painful traumatic event that happened to me, in which he revealing some information I’d never have known otherwise. That established a bond. It also kept us slightly apart because I wanted to put that painful memory behind me and he would always bring it up.
Steve had just gone through a divorce and been granted custody of his daughter. One of only three men I have known that were given custody. All of these men fought fiercely for that option. He was a dedicated father and well deserving of that responsibility. I never met his daughter but he often spoke of how proud he was of her.
We reconnected when I moved back to Easton seven years later. Both being busy we became texting buddies. Sharing stories, news, and funny memes on nearly a daily basis. So many of which he sent me I still have not viewed them all. He sent me a funny meme just 5 hours before his passing.
It is very sad to lose him. I am still in a state of disbelief. He was a good man, a proud father, and husband, and had lots of life in front of him. My heartfelt condolences to his family. It was a tragedy to lose him with so much life’s still in front of him.

I only knew Steve for about a year, but amazing how an instant friendship bonds, and that is just the guy that he was. We worked side by side last year at The Greenwich Concours D'Elegance. He and I hustled, figured stuff out on the fly and just got it done. All the time both of us, even though stressed, with a smile and laughter. After this he and I kept in touch througout the year. Rest in Peace my friend, I will so miss your smiling face and wit this year at the event. You will be there with the team, Katie and Devin.

Steve was a great friend for many years. Steve and I were working on many projects together, and we were just out in Brooklyn helping to review some safety issues with homeowners last week. The recent pictures show a master of his craft unafraid to get hands-on to help others.
He had an amazing mastery of construction as well as design. His encyclopedic knowledge of engineering and his sense of humor will be sorely missed. He had a great ability to see both sides of technical as well as human issues, knowing the value of both process and goal. A real gentleman and professional.
My great condolences to his family, particularly with the simultaneous loss of his aunt and uncle. They should all be proud of a man with a life well lived.

It was a pleasure sharing the sidelines with Steve years ago. He was a winner. He was passionate about success and wanted the best for his children. I also have fond memories meeting up with him and his family in Maine. Steve loved his children and was very proud of them. Condolences to all, Declan Curtin

Steve was very passionate in many aspects of life but his willingness to help others was off-the-charts. A good example of this is when I was out of town in Florida and our boiler started leaking and I suggested to my wife to give Steve a call after we were unable to have the boiler quickly serviced after contacting the boiler company. Steve gladly stopped by the house at 10:30 pm on a Saturday evening, evaluated the issue, went back to house to obtain the proper tools, and quickly corrected the issue that negated the need of my wife constantly dumping buckets of water down the sink. Although this is only one example, I've heard of numerous occasions where Steve dropped what he was doing in order to assist neighbors, friends and relatives.
Steve also went out of his way to assist other members of my family whether helping my niece obtain an architectural internship, greasing the wheels to help my son obtain a job interview, or offering guidance when I was working on home projects. As an architect, Steve was a man of many talents, and he was always willing to share his knowledge. However, and most importantly, I will miss our conversations on a variety of topics. Although we didn't always agree, I respected Steve's views and the passion he brought to so many of our chats. Steve was a great guy who will be sorely missed.

For many years, I had the honor of being Steve's children's babysitter. This role gave me a unique perspective on the kind of man he was. Steve always greeted me with laughter, kindness, and respect. His love for his family was a constant presence – his wife and children absolutely adored him, drawn to his quick wit and infectious enthusiasm for conversation. He possessed a remarkable ability to make everyone feel seen and heard, and this extended to me as well. Even in our interactions as babysitter and parent, Steve created a warm and welcoming environment.
Steve's legacy is a beautiful one, filled with love, laughter, and a strong faith. There's no doubt his light will continue to shine brightly, both in the hearts of his loved ones and that he will even make heaven twice as bright and welcoming.

We are heartbroken. Mr. Rowland was such a wonderful person, and his yearly visit to Cleveland for a Browns game was something our family always looked forward to. I'll always cherish the memories of Mabel’s BBQ and walking around downtown. Our thoughts are with you all.
