Obituary of Anthony Henry Salce

Anthony Henry Salce Sr. (Tony), age 102, of Trumbull died peacefully in his home on March 7, 2024. Tony was born in Bridgeport and lived in Trumbull for over 70 years.

Tony proudly served in the US Coast Guard, Naval Service from 1943-1945 during World War II as part of the European and Pacific Campaigns. He was assigned as a fireman first class and turret lathe operator aboard the USS Samuel Chase, which was a Coast Guard manned attack-transport vessel. It was a part of the Allied fleet that landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He received 2 Bronze Stars and the French Legion Medal of Honor for his brave service. After his Honorable Discharge, he remained committed to his service through his work with The Disabled American Vets and The American Legion.

Upon his return from the war, Tony met and married his life-long sweetheart Edith (Dolly) D'Eramo on May 10, 1952. Together they constructed and built a beautiful and love-filled home in Trumbull. There they raised 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. He worked tirelessly as owner and founder of Salce Brothers Builders and Contractors for 50 years.

Tony was a well-respected figure in the Trumbull community. Throughout his lifetime he served as Trumbull Board Police Commissioner (20+ years), Chairman of Public Works Committee, Past President of the Trumbull Exchange Club, Trumbull Town Council (5+ years), Trumbull Republican Town Committee (20+ years), Trumbull Building Committee, Year-Round School Study Committee Chairman, Co-Chairman Cooperative Work Experience Program at Trumbull High School, and most notably as the Grand Marshall for the annual Trumbull Memorial Day Parade the past few years.

Tony was devoted to the Catholic Church. He served as a Eucharistic Minster and received the St. Augustine Medal of Service in 2007 for his generous contributions to St. Theresa Church. He was also a member of St. Theresa's Knights of Columbus, The Sons of Saint Joseph, and he was a Parish Trustee.

Tony is predeceased by his father Pasquale and mother Angelina Salce, three brothers Jim, Nick and Joe Salce, and a sister Florence DeLucia.

Survivors include his devoted and loving wife of 72 years, Edith, his children, Cindy & Michael Niedermeier, Linda & Donald Mazzarella, Anthony & Sheila Salce Jr, and his daughter-in-law Ruth Salce, cherished grandchildren, Jaime & Chris McAuliffe, Michael & Lindsey Niedermeier Jr., Allison & Andrew Lee, Neal Mazzarella, Callie & Mike Stivenson, Anthony Salce III, Amy Salce, and Arleigh Salce,  8 adoring great-grandchildren, Aubree & Ryan McAuliffe, Braxton & Austin Niedermeier, Evelyn & Henry Lee, Nicholas Mazzarella, and Vera Lynn Stivenson., along with many nieces and nephews.

Tony will be fondly remembered as the patriarch of a beautiful family who always had your back, stood up for what was right, and told you like it was. He will always live on forever in our hearts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
