Obituary of Jose Goncalves Rua

Jose Goncalves Rua, age 73, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Maria Odette Moreno Rua, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 25, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Born in Codecoso-Meixedo, Montalegre, Portugal on January 20, 1951 he was a son of the late Francisco and Isabel Fonte Nova Rua. A member of the Portuguese Army, he emigrated to the United States in November of 1975 and settled in Bridgeport. A member of the Vasco de Gama Club and the Connecticut Laborers Union, he worked for many area construction companies. He was a soccer fan and enjoyed cheering for his favorite Portuguese team Benfica and enjoyed tending to his garden. Jose was a hardworking man who always put his family first. His greatest joy was to spend time with his family especially his grandchildren. The values he taught and love he provided will always live in their hearts. He was predeceased by his daughter, Diana Moreno Rua, a brother, Antonio Fonte Nova and his wife Ileia Ila Fonte Nova and his brother-in-law, Manuel de Cruz. In addition to his wife, Maria, he is survived by his loving children, a son, Duarte Rua and his wife Amanda and a daughter, Silvia Rua Alfonso and her husband Kevin, seven grandchildren, David, Liliana, Jacob, Caleb, Ophelia, Peyton and Delilah, three brothers, Domingos Rua and his wife Fernanda and Mario G. Rua and his wife Ana, and Joao G. Rua and his wife Ana das Neves Goncalves Rua, sisters, Ana Rua Rosa and her husband Antonio, Arminda de Cruz, Ana F. Rua Henriques and her husband Fernando, Joaquina Rua Pereira and her husband Jose Manuel, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
