Obituary of Edward William Herndon

Edward William Herndon, age 65, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Karen Moore Herndon and father of Katie and Eddie Herndon, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 23, 2023 with his loving family by his side. Born on May 7, 1958 in Elmhurst, Illinois, he was a son of the late Jean Obuchowski Quinn and Fred Quinn. A U.S. Air Force Veteran, Edward was employed by the Morganti Group where he was the Chief Estimator.

Born in Illinois, Ed was an avid Chicago sports fan through and through. He spent football Sundays cheering on the Bears, and countless nights rooting for the Blackhawks. Every Chicago win was followed by a roaring "yeah, baby!" that triumphantly echoed through their Trumbull home.

He loved to cook and took immense pride in curating the perfect meal for his family and guests. He often said, "not every meal will be a homerun" – but always worked to make it so. He always wanted his family and friends to feel welcome and right at home; and spared no expense to do so. Lobster, steak and mussels were just a few items on the menu when he knew his kids were coming home or friends were joining for dinner.

His big personality could fill a room and above all else, he loved to have fun. He had an incredible sense of humor and could make anyone laugh with his classic Ed Herndon stories.

He enjoyed a good party just as much as he appreciated the beauty of relaxing and enjoying life's little moments. He could often be found lounging beside the outdoor fireplace listening to Country music, watching and tending to his aquarium, or fishing on the dock at Blanche Lake or on the pier in front of his parents' Fort Myers home – all with a vodka drink in hand, of course.

While he was strong willed (with a mouth of a trucker), Ed spent his days loving his family and friends deeply. He was humble and honest, and never missed an opportunity to spread kindness or make someone's day a little brighter. Any chance he had to say "I love you," he took. He took people under his wing without hesitation, and always guided his kids on the right path – one that was honest, loving and true. He led with empathy and love. He was a lot of great things to a lot of great people, but took the most pride in being a loving husband and father.

Ed left this earth at peace with the life he had lived. Prior to his passing, he voiced to his wife, Karen, his gratitude for the adventures they were able to enjoy. Together, and with their kids, they experienced the beauty, culture and cuisine of places like Hawaii, Italy, Spain and France – as well as Caribbean cruises and beach vacations.

Alongside his beloved wife of 31 years and his children, survivors include his sister Cindy Swift, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother and stepfather, he was predeceased by three sisters, Linda Mathis, Bev Nelson and Anita Nelson.

Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 20, 2024 in Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 406 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
