Born on July 18, 1943 in Ripi, Frosinone, Italy, he was the son of the late Mario and Maria Zangrilli Cortina. He immigrated to the United States at the age of 12 and graduated from Bullard Havens Technical School and was an electrician by trade. Alvaro was a seven-year veteran of the Army National Guard. But above all he was a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He cared deeply for his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include his three loving children, Dawn Markut and her husband Frank, Dennis Cortina and Kevin Cortina, two cherished grandchildren, David Cortina and Erin Markut, his dear friend and caregiver, Dianne Camella, sisters, Nancy Bassani and her husband Vincent, Silvia Cortina, Elsie Naylor, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Richard Naylor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 10:30 am directly in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Rd., Newtown.
