Obituary of Carol Brackett

Carol Mesler Brackett, 87, of Shelton, CT, beloved wife of the late Frederick H. Brackett, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 6, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Born on October 12, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Sally Gebbia Mesler.

Her greatest joy was being surrounded by family, friends, and neighbors. Her kitchen was the hub of her home and family and friends would gather around the table to enjoy her freshly-baked cakes, cookies, and famous cream cheese brownies! Preparing family dinners always brought her so much happiness and she was sure to end every meal with something chocolate! She was also an expert seamstress and knitter. New babies were always gifted with beautiful sweaters and blankets. In recent years she would knit beautiful scarves and on Christmas Eve, her family would get to pick a gift bag with their "surprise" scarf, followed by everyone trying to trade with each other to get their favorite color!

Gardening always brought Carol so much joy. The kids can probably still hear her saying "watch my flowers!" as they played in her backyard. And who can forget Grandma throwing grapes in the pool for them to dive for?

Carol was an active member of her daughters' elementary and high school PTA, serving as president for a number of years, and volunteering in the school nurse's office. When her daughters were in high school, she worked part-time at Ciba Geigy for "pocket money" which she usually spent on her family (or more chocolate!)

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor, and will be truly missed by all who knew her. Survivors include her three cherished daughters, Cathy Bostley and her husband Mike of Trumbull, Linda Rufino and her husband Tim of Trumbull, and Donna Tallent of Trumbull; adored grandchildren, Kristina Lubofsky and her husband David, Michelle Calabrese and her husband Anthony, John and Jillian Tallent, and Robert Rufino, two beautiful great-grandchildren, Jacob and Imogene, sister-in-law Carolyn Mesler, her nephew and nieces, Larry, Lori, and Amy, and their loving families, and all her loving friends whom she considered more like family. She was predeceased by her brother, Larry Mesler.

We are very grateful for the care and love she received from all the wonderful staff during her time at Wesley Heights. Everyone brought her much happiness and made her feel very cared for.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton, CT. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday morning before the Mass from 10:15 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Carol's name to Wesley Heights at Wesley Village, Lifestyles Neighborhood: https://www.umh.org/philanthropy, or checks made payable to Wesley Heights, 580 Long Hill Avenue, Shelton, CT 06484.
