Obituary of Harold F. Greene Jr.

Harold Greene, a long-time resident of Guilderland, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Halloween at his son's home in Trumbull, CT.

Harold was born in Franklin, MA to Harold and Rachel (Fitzgerald) Greene. He joined the Army after high school and served in Korea before graduating from Northeastern University with a degree in mathematics. He later added a master's degree from the University at Albany during a long career in teaching and school administration. He retired from the Albany Public Schools.

Harold married Eva Shediack in 1958 and they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. They were dedicated to family and had three sons, Harold J., Jonathan and Steven. It was not uncommon to see both of them up at the crack of dawn helping the boys on their paper routes during rain or snow storms in exchange for a contribution to a fund for family outings. The day would end with family discussion of work, school and the nightly news.

In addition to his parents, Harold was pre-deceased by his wife and eldest son, MG Harold J. Greene, who was killed in action in Afghanistan. He is survived by Jonathan and his wife Jacqueline Carter of Trumbull, Steven of Cicero, NY and Harold's wife, Col. (ret.) Susan Myers of Ashburn, VA. He also has four grandchildren, Maj. (ret.) Matthew Greene and his wife Kasandra of Boston, Stephanie Greene and her husband George Alvarez of Huntington, NY, Amelia Greene of Brooklyn and Melanie Greene of Medford, MA.

There will not be a wake or funeral at this time. The family is planning a memorial event for friends and family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that those who wish to remember Harold make a donation to Fisher House at fisherhouse.org or at 301-294-8560
