Obituary of Alfred J. Liggins Jr.

Alfred "Fred" J. Liggins, Jr., 79, of Trumbull passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 6, 2023. He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Mary Bagoly Liggins, his son Chad Liggins and his wife, Courtney, of Euless, Texas, daughter Elisabeth "Libby" Liggins, adoring sidekick Ernie, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and brother and sister in laws. He was predeceased by a sister, June Patrick Gilbertie.

Fred was born April 5, 1944, in Bridgeport, CT, to Alfred J. Liggins, Sr. and Beatrice Kubasko Liggins. He was a graduate of Trumbull High School where he excelled in multiple sports and was among the first inductees into the Trumbull High School Hall of Fame. After high school, Fred attended Panhandle State University in Oklahoma where he competed in both football and baseball. He also completed the school's advanced ROTC program, after which he proudly served in the United States Army as an officer in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as a 1st Lieutenant in 1971.

Fred had a long and fulfilling career of over 40 years at William B. Meyer Inc. in Stratford, CT, where he retired as Vice President of Operations. He was recognized in 1998 by United Van Lines as the top operations executive in the country, the first time this award was presented.

As a lifelong resident, Fred served many years as a police commissioner and devoted much of his time to the town of Trumbull. He loved listening to '50's music and was a true sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing golf at Oronoque Country Club where he was a member for over 30 years and made many lifelong friends. He was an avid fan of the Yankees and the Giants and never missed watching a game. Fred's greatest joy came from spending time with his family, especially his children. Whether it was cheering them on at their sporting events or participating during school activities, he was always there for them. He was a loving husband, father, and friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends may greet the family on Tuesday August 15, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. All are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will be private.
