Obituary of Eugene A. Smith III
Eugene A. "Chip" Smith III, age 76, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Michaelina Crisara Smith, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 16, 2023. A son of the late Eugene A. Smith II and Dorothea Fiske Smith, he was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 22, 1946, and moved with his mother and younger brother Clinton, to Greenwich, Connecticut in 1959. Chip graduated from Greenwich High School in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal in Germany during the Vietnam conflict. After his Honorable Discharge from the Army, he began his professional career in sales at Fermont Corp.in Bridgeport where he met his future wife, mother of his children and partner in life, Michaelina "Mickey". Chip and his family lived in Monroe for 30 years before moving to Bridgeport.
Chip was the Chief Executive Officer at Huntington Power Equipment in Shelton, a company he helped found, lead and loved for over 40 years. His impact on the company and the industry was significant and long lasting. He was a former Trustee of Holy Rosary Church, a St. Anthony Festival Chair and was proud to have been a recipient of the Medal of St. Augustine in recognition to his faithful service to Holy Rosary. He was also a Trustee at St. Margaret's Shrine, serving on the Festival Committee for many years. Chip was caring, positive, passionate, a light in the room and always made you feel good when you were around him.
In addition to his wife Mickey, survivors include two sons, Geoffrey J. Smith of Grafton, Vermont and Luke L. Smith of Bridgeport, three grandchildren, Anthony Smith, Crisara Cuebas (Jeremy) and Molly Smith as well as several nieces and nephews. He was recently predeceased by his brother and best friend, Clinton L. Smith of Bridgewater, Mass.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Margaret's Shrine, 2523 Park Ave, Bridgeport. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford with Military Honors. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday from 4-7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Memorial contributions may be made to St Margaret's Shrine.
