Obituary of Wallace W. Woods

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wallace "Wally" Woods, 89, of Black Rock, CT. Wally left us on April 9, 2023, after a long and beautiful life filled with travel and adventure. He is survived by his wife Denise, his two daughters Valerie and Jennifer, his son-in-law Paul and two granddaughters Sophie and Tegan, as well as many loved siblings, nieces, and nephews. Born in Los Angeles on November 23, 1933 to Paul and Inez Woods, Wally was the oldest of 6 siblings.

As a young adult, he started his career in international human resources which afforded opportunities to live in – and travel to – far away places rich in culture. Wally and his family cherished the experiences they shared living in Hong Kong and Tokyo, and visiting many destinations in Southeast Asia and Europe. One of their many moves brought Wally and Denise to Westport, CT. They enjoyed the vibrant artistic community so much so that after retirement they chose to settle in Westport. It is in Westport where Wally fulfilled his passion for art and history at the Westport Historical Society, serving many years there - including a period as its president. As an avid artist himself, Wally delved into all aspects of abstract art – devouring books on the arts, spending treasured hours at fine arts museums, and of course creating his own unique pieces. His love of art was infectious. He will be deeply missed.

Services were held as an intimate family gathering. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Westport Historical Society, now known as the Westport Museum for History & Culture, at westporthistory.org – an organization Wally had strong ties to.
