Obituary of Robert Checca Sr.

Robert Checca, Sr., age 91, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at St. Vincent's Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Liana (Cefaloni) Checca. Born in Pettorano sul Gizio, province of L'Aquila, Italy on November 27, 1931, he was a son of the late John and Donata (Bonitatibus) Checca. A remarkably gifted and talented stone mason, he began his work life with the E&F Construction Company and perfected his craft with custom homebuilders in Fairfield and Westport. In 1973 he founded his own company, Robert Checca Mason Contractor, Inc., which he operated until his retirement. In his long career, he was privileged to work with outstanding building and landscape architects, making many longstanding friendships. He turned creative visions into reality throughout Fairfield County, leaving an enduring legacy of his skill and workmanship. He enjoyed all outdoor activities, spending countless hours in his garden growing a bounty of vegetables and beautiful flowers. He had a refined personal style that set him apart, a thankful and generous heart, and a sense of humor that never failed to make us smile. His greatest enjoyment was found in the time he spent surrounded by his loving family. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife and "girlfriend" Liana of 67 years, other survivors include his loving children, Donna Checca Allan and her husband John of Easton and Robert Checca, Jr. of Trumbull, his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Allan Dhanraj and her husband Andrew, Brian Allan and Amanda Allan, his brothers, Rudy Checca and his wife Florinda of Trumbull and Bruno Checca of Fairfield, his sisters-in-law, Anna Checca of Trumbull , Lorraine Checca of Monroe, and Vincenza Donegan and her husband Michael of Stratford, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Angelina Checca, Amedeo Checca, Dora Suffoletta, Giulio Checca and Victor Checca, and his brother-in-law, Italo Cefaloni.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull. Entombment will follow in the Pilgrimage Mausoleum of Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may greet the family on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
