Obituary of Gerald A. Bertie

Gerald A. Bertie, age 90, of Shelton CT, beloved husband of Sara Gowan Bertie, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 12, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 27, 1932, in St. Paul, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Eugene and Bernice Arner Bertie. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a graduate of Morgan Park High School in Duluth, MN, and a 1958 graduate of the University of Minnesota-Duluth. After being employed for 30 years by Equitable Life Assurance Society of U.S., he retired as Vice President in 1989 and enjoyed a long, active retirement.

Gerald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, and a dedicated member of his church and community. He cherished time with his family, never missing a christening, communion, graduation, or wedding, and he was ever-present at his beloved grandchildren's local sporting events. His faith, the unconditional love he gave, and the values he taught will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years, Sara, survivors include his loving children, Karen Esposito and husband Peter of Cypress, CA, Patricia Stillhart and husband Patrick of Hong Kong, Anne Shay and husband Christopher of Trumbull, Michael Bertie and wife Patricia of Trumbull, ten grandchildren (Andrea (husband Sean), Christina (husband Josh), Victoria, Connor, Grace, Nolan, Ella, Lexi, Kiera and Quinn), two great grandchildren (Sonia and Ava), and two bonus great-grandchildren (Malachai and Samson) as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter Susan Kingsley and two sisters, Mary Jean Daoust and Janet Bertie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton, CT. A private interment with military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Friday, November 18, from 4-7 p.m., with a time of remembrance taking place at 6:00 p.m., at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT.
