Obituary of Edward G. Humpal
Edward George Humpal, 78, of Monroe, Connecticut passed away on June 15, 2022. The son of the late George and Emma (Prasienski), he was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 30, 1944.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Kathleen (Spooner), sons, Gregory (Jennie) of Stratford and Brian (Amy Davis) of Beacon Falls, grandchildren Jackson, Andrew and Emily, brothers-in-law Anthony Morella and Robert Spooner, sister-in-law Donna Freeman, several nieces and nephews and a community of friends. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Morella.
After Edward graduated as the Senior Class President of South High School in 1963, he attended and graduated from Bowling Green State University. He then served in the United States Army's 14th Artillery Unit in Europe before returning home to the Cleveland area to start his family.
In 1975 he moved his family to Connecticut for a job and life that would offer his family and himself more opportunities than he had growing up. He retired from Marsh & McLennan twice, the final time in 2012 as a Senior Account Executive. Most people will remember their interactions with Edward because of his quick witted and self-deprecating sense of humor and his ability to use it to lighten the mood or make uncomfortable moments seem less so. Many will also recall his selflessness.
Edward volunteered countless hours to a variety of community organizations. He served many administrative roles for the Lakewood Estates Association and helped start the Monroe-Easton Travel Soccer Club. His service to his community was recognized on multiple occasions, including when he was named "Man of the Year" by the Solon, Ohio Jaycees in 1974 and when he received Masuk High School Parent/Teacher Club's Leadership Award in 2006. Edward was often found on the sidelines of his son's games, cooking hot dogs at the high school concession stand, grilling all day at "The Lake", or walking with his wife in the neighborhood in the hopes of encountering friends and their dogs.
A memorial service will be held at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road Trumbull, CT on Sunday, June 26, 2022 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. As per his wishes, he will be cremated and a private service will be held at the family's convenience. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org.
