Obituary of David J. DiVincenzo

David Joseph (DJ) DiVincenzo, age 16, of Stratford passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of New York Presbyterian after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. Born in New York, New York on June 4, 2005 he was a son of David DiVincenzo of Ansonia and Jennifer DiVincenzo and (Tim Parkes) of Stratford. DJ was a junior at Stratford High School, where he was a member of the track team which was a huge accomplishment for him. DJ was an avid N.Y. Giants fan and also had a fascination with elevators, which began at a very young age. He was a huge fan of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. DJ loved music, cooking, and had an infectious spirit and wit. He was easy to root for, be proud of...to love. His greatest enjoyment however was found in the time he spent surrounded by his family and friends. DJ left a lasting impression on all those he encountered.

In addition to his loving parents, he is also survived by his cherished brother, Max DiVincenzo, his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Amelia DiVincenzo of Ansonia, his maternal grandmother, Carol Bonazzo of Shelton, his aunts and uncles, Amy and Joe Potvin of Trumbull, Joseph DiVincenzo and his wife Deanna of Oxford and Lou Bonazzo of Shelton. Also, his beloved cousins, Alessandra, Matthew, Jackson, Emma Rose, Steven, Sean and Molly. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Louis J. Bonazzo, Sr.

A huge thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at New York Presbyterian for giving us 16 years of memories with DJ. There are no words to adequately express our gratitude for the extraordinary care he received. In addition, we would like to thank the Center of Children with Special Needs, Beacon staff and the Stratford Public school system for helping to shape him into the outstanding person he was.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow at Mount St. Peter’s Cemetery in Derby, CT. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
