Obituary of Helder Alberto Gomes

Helder Alberto Gomes, age 54, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Raquel Santos Gomes, past away peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2022 with his loving family by his side. Born on May 10, 1967, in Paradela de Veiga, São Pedro de Agostém, Chaves, Portugal, he was a son of the late Artur Jorge Nogueira Gomes and Benvinda Pereira de Brito. Before immigrating to the United States, he proudly served in the Comandos, Special Forces of the Portuguese Army. Helder was a member of BAC Local 1 for over 10 years and was currently employed by the City of Milford Public Works Department. He was a member of the Vasco da Gama Club and enjoyed spending time there watching his favorite soccer team Sporting CP, as well as the Portuguese National Team. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband and father. Helder treasured time with his family, especially with his daughters. The unconditional love he gave and the memories they created will forever live in their hearts. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his beloved wife of 25 years, Raquel, survivors include his two cherished and adored daughters, Monica Gomes and Amanda Gomes, four sisters, Maria da Graca Gomes, Maria Eugenia Gomes, Maria do Ceu Gomes Casas and her husband Joao, and Maria Jose Gomes, two brothers, Rui Jorge Gomes and his wife Natalia and Jorge Manuel Gomes, father and mother-in-law, Victor and Augusta Santos, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his oldest brother, Eduardo Jorge Gomes. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in the Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield. Relatives and friends may greet the family at a walk-through visitation on Monday from 4 – 7 pm at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Social distance and masks are recommended.
