Obituary of Paul C. Devan Jr.
Paul C. Devan, Jr., age 79 of Monroe was reunited with his loving wife Cookie of 46 years when he passed away on Thursday, December 9, 2021. Born in Bridgeport on January 20, 1942 he was the son of the late Paul C. and Anna (Mital) Devan, Sr. He was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran having served in the Seabees during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Paul began his career at City Lumber in Bridgeport before eventually managing the architectural mill at Stevenson Lumber for nearly 30 years. He then spent the next 12 years working at Oxford Paint and Hardware before his retirement. A skilled woodworker and cabinet maker, Paul also enjoyed teaching night school at Bullard Havens Technical High School. Paul was very proud to be a life member of the Monroe Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 50 years where he served as Chief of Department during the 1980s. He was also honored to serve as a past Worshipful Master for the Masonic Washington Lodge #19 of Monroe and was a member of the American Legion, Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters and several other civic groups. Paul loved fishing and boating, looked forward to trips to the casino, spending time with family and friends, and watching sports. Given his kind-hearted nature and handyman skills, Paul was always lending a hand to anyone in need and was the epitome of the phrase "neighbors helping neighbors". As a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend of many, he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving children, Paul Devan III and his wife Kellie of Litchfield, Matthew Devan of Prospect and Melissa Catalano and her husband Kevin of Monroe, his cherished grandchildren, Miranda, Ryan, Sarah and Jack, whom he absolutely adored, and his sister, Irene Devan of Monroe. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Frances "Cookie" (Stone) Devan.
