Obituary of Anthony J. Cappella

Anthony J. Cappella, age 78, of Monroe passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Sharon (Pontillo) Cappella. Born in New York City, New York on June 11, 1943 he was a son of the late Nicholas and Carmella (Fanuzzi) Cappella. A proud U.S. Army veteran having served honorably as an MP and dog handler during the Vietnam War. He later managed the Bridgeport Jai Alai for 20 years before performing the same duties for Enviro Express Limited. He was also a longtime Trustee for the Teamsters Union, where he built many lasting friendships. His greatest enjoyment was found in the time he spent surrounded by his family and grandchildren. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife Sharon of 53 years, other survivors include his loving children, Steven Cappella and his wife Yvonne of Urbana, MD and Jennifer Williams and her husband James of Marlborough, CT, his cherished grandchildren, Alexandra and Gabrielle Cappella and Anthony “AJ” and Jake Williams, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his brothers, Vincent “Jimmy” Cappella and John Cappella.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 8, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
