Obituary of Joseph F. Monaco

Joseph F. Monaco, age 93, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Bridgeport hospital with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of 58 years to the late Josephine Cennamo Monaco. Born in East Haven on February 14, 1928, he was a son of the late Anthony and Adeline DeFilippo Monaco.

After high School, Joe joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Before his retirement he was a leadman of electrical checkout at Sikorsky Aircraft for many years.

The word that best sums up Joseph's life is faithful. He was devoted to his wife whom he loved and adored. He enjoyed traveling with her to the Bahamas, Las Vegas, Hawaii, Texas to visit his daughter and California to visit his son. He attentively cared for his wife for years through extended illnesses.

He was faithful and generous to his children and grandchildren, hosting meals at his home, even after his wife passed, cooking pasta, meatballs and more. He put out quite a spread! He attended and loved watching his grandchildren's events and sports and even dance competitions.

He was faithful to his brothers and sisters, attending and hosting monthly get-togethers at each other's homes for a delicious Italian meal, lively conversation, and laughter. Joe loved to tell jokes and laugh. He had a great sense of humor. He loved playing bocci with the family. Joe was faithful to his brothers, meeting them weekly for hot dogs at Costco. Joe was faithful to his sister-in-law, driving them to the Casino each month, win or lose.

Joseph was a faithful parishioner of St. Mark's church in Stratford, never missing a weekly mass. He was even faithful to his baseball team, the Yankees, cheering them on to the end.

Survivors include four loving children, Lisa Monaco and her husband Michael Vinci Jr. of NJ, Joseph Monaco and his wife Colleen of CA, Lori Lisi and her husband Mario of Stratford and Tina Johnson and her husband Robert of TX, six cherished grandchildren, Corey Dlugos, Joseph Dlugos and his wife Lacey, Joseph and Jacob Monaco and Joshua and Maria Lisi, a beloved great grandson, Grayson, four siblings, Rose Houde, Anthony Monaco, Carol Scussel and George Monaco, a sister-in-law, Gilda Palatiello and a brother-in-law, William Widell as well as many nieces and nephews.
