Aunt Norma is best remembered for being a loving, loyal and supportive wife and a caring and loving mother. However, Norma was also a daughter. In fact, she took pride in being born in West Virginia to a Coal Miner. She was proud to be a “Coal Miner’s daughter”.
When my grandfather moved Norma and her three sisters to Connecticut for a better life, she never forgot about her roots. She was quite close to her father from what I understand. She would spend hours with him, tending their backyard garden when she was growing up on Anton Street. The similarities didn't stop there.
My grandfather was one of 10 children, Norma was one of six. Norma carried on that big family tradition by having eight children of her own. My grandfather passed away when I was very young and the only pictures I've ever seen of him were from Aunt Norma. She even had some great photos of her grandparents who had immigrated from Italy.
Her legacy and lasting memory will be through her children and grandchildren. I remember a conversation I had with Gretchen. She told me a wonderful and very moving quality about Aunt Norma. "When you're up, Norma's the first person to bring you back down to Earth. But when you're down and the whole world is against you, Norma is the first person that will bring you up, have your back and support you no matter who or what is against you."
She was the strength and the bond that held her family together. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter and buzzing with life, where the door was always open. There was always a place to sleep if you needed one and a place at her table no matter how full it was.
She was tough till the very end. Now she can rest in peace with her parents, her sisters Tootsie and Rosie, Uncle Ray, Raymond and Michael and all those she loved and cared about who passed before her. But she will always live on through the love, the lessons and the memories of her children, grandchildren, her brothers David and Gary and her sister Patty as well as all those who loved and cared about her. She will never be forgotten...Rest in Peace Aunt Norma….

During my treasured youth, I spent so much time at the McPadden’s. Even though she was tough — and a force to be reckoned with — Norma always made one and all feel welcome and part of the extended family. Of course, there are many funny stories and remembrances during these times that I still cherish, and will laugh about for years to come. She and Ray were great friends with my parents Rose and Bobby, and I used to so enjoy and look forward to their visits. Ray and Norma were foundational figures in my formative years.
The family went through many trials and tribulations, and Norma held it all together — she was the glue!
Blessings to the entire McPadden clan for their continued good cheer and strong service to the communities they live and work in. Ray and Norma set such a beautiful example, and everyone of the children have become good citizens — high praise in today’s world. Requiescet in Pace, Norma

We were so sorry to hear about Norma. What a wonderful woman. My husband and I were married by Ray in 2005 and she was right by his side. It was a pleasure to know her.
