Obituary of Donald Carl Keegan
Donald C. Keegan, 83, of Stratford, beloved husband of Judy, and loving father of Donna (David) LaReau, Doreen (Carmine) Battimelli, Denise Keegan, and Judy (John) Grib, entered into eternal rest surrounded by family on June 16, 2021. He was the adored grandfather of Allison (Curtis Mariani) LaReau and Jacquelyn LaReau; Donald and Giovanni Battimelli; Thomas (fiancee Ali Hillier), Brian, and David Nalezynski; and Natalie, John and Colin Grib. Don was born and raised in Bridgeport, graduated from Bullard-HavensTechnical High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was a proud SeaBee (construction battalion) and was stationed in California, Japan and the Philippines. A highly regarded employer and businessman, Donald was the owner and president of John L. Simpson Company. His business was responsible for the renovation and construction of many commercial properties throughout the state. He served on the boards of the Burroughs Home and the North End Boys and Girls Club. An avid golfer, he was a longtime member and past president of Mill River Country Club, and was thrilled to have gotten (an amazing) 9 holes-in-one. A lifelong Giants fan, he traveled to their games throughout the U.S. with a group of longtime friends. Don and Judy enjoyed a loving 60-year marriage that was an example to their family. His life with Judy was filled with family, friends and extensive travel.
He is survived by his brother John (Wanda) Keegan, sisters Florence Butanowicz and Alice (Michael) LaPrise, his dear cousin, Joanne Rocco, and several other cousins, nieces, and nephews, and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald R. Keegan and Ruth (Dinan) Keegan Fisher, and his brother Michael Keegan. Don was a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather; a loyal friend, and a hilarious storyteller with an infectious laugh. He was kind, honest, thoughtful, and generous with his time and talent, always willing to lend a hand to family and friends whenever needed. In that spirit, his family asks that you perform an act of kindness in Don's memory, whether by action or contribution to the charity of your choice.
