Obituary of Ruth A. Schulenburg
Ruth A. Schulenburg, age 83, of Shelton passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in St. Albans, NY on February 23, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Clarence Otto and Ruth (Seely) Schulenburg. Ruth had been employed by AVCO Lycoming as an Administrative Assistant before her retirement with 43 years of dedicated service.
Ruth was an amazing Daughter, Sister, Aunt and Friend. She spread love and happiness wherever she went and to whomever she came in contact with. There are so many wonderful qualities in Ruth that we have all been blessed by. Ruth may not have had her own children but she considered all of her Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces, Great Nephews and Great Great Nieces and Nephews to be locked in heart and treasured each and every day. She made each person in her life feel special, and took the time to listen and be fully invested in the time she spent with you.
Ruth was always on the go and enjoying life to the fullest. She put her faith in God above all else and lived by the word. She was an active member of the Nichols United Methodist Church and her joy was working as an Altar Guild committee person and her role as the Church Librarian. Ruth was also part of the Huntington United Methodist Church Bell Choir and participated In Bible classes with both congregations.
Ruth was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, holding the role of phone tree person. The DAR will sorely miss her. Ruth’s other hobbies included Reading, going for walks, playing Bocce Ball with her fellow Aspetuck Village neighbors and especially playing cards with the ladies. She was very competitive; Backgammon was her game and she loved a good challenge and beating family members. Ruth spent much of her summers up at Cape Cod walking the beaches and enjoying adventures on her Brother Fred’s boat. Her lasting Joy was her Faithful Companion “Eli”! Ruth will be missed by many, thought of often and loved forever.
She is survived by her sisters and brother, Juliana Seely Lavitola of Monroe, Frederick H. Schulenburg of South Wellfleet, MA and Karen Allen and her husband Bud of Shelton, sister-in-law, Eleanor Schulenburg, brother-in-law, Red Rooney, her lifelong friend, Janet Hilinski of Stratford, her faithful canine companion, Eli as well as many nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by her fiancé, George Drake, her sisters, Shirley Rooney and Annette Stanzel and her brothers, Clarence and Robert Schulenburg.
