Obituary of Jan K. Kostyszyn

Jan (John) Karol Kostyszyn age 61 born August 18th, 1959, passed away peacefully with his beloved family by his side at Yale New Haven Hospital on February 23, 2021. Born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Marian and Regina (Czeczotko) Kostyszyn. John was a proud alum of Bullard Havens Class of 77 where he developed a passion for working in the trades. After graduation, John worked for Reliable Press as a printer but eventually found his true calling as a cabinetmaker. He was the co-founder of Counters By The Foot which later became CBTF Architectural. Being a true craftsman, he mentored many aspiring woodworkers. John was known for his afterhours projects making things for his family and friends like church kneelers, cutting boards and even custom metal screws.

When John wasn't working, he loved music and radio – he worked various events as a DJ and hosted a radio show at KBFM in Texas. John started a show at WVOF, Poland Music and Song, with his good friend Kaz. After moving the show to WNHU he also hosted the Morning Scramble every Sunday morning. Most of all, John loved spending his down time with his wife of 28 years (which he was proud to tell you he met on a blind date) watching NASCAR, the Patriots and going to numerous family events.

John is survived by his loving wife Lesley (Wade) Kostyszyn, his Brother Robert and wife Betty Kostyszyn, niece Jessica and her husband Dennis Olmstead and their daughter Gracelyn, niece Sarah and her husband Daniel Mazzabufi and brother-in-law William Wade. He was predeceased by great nephew Gabriel Olmstead.

A walk-through visitation will take place on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Visitors are asked to wear masks and social distance as they walk through, pay their respects, and exit without lingering to ensure all guests can come through the building. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane, Stratford. Face masks and social distancing will be required. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Grace Church, or to "The Colby Fund", St. Mary's Development Office, C/O The Colby Fund, PO Box 7291, Lewiston, ME 04243-7291, in memory of Gabriel Olmstead.
