Frederick Mayernik

Obituary of Frederick C. Mayernik

Frederick C. Mayernik, age 83 of Stratford, beloved husband to Arlene Petrucelli Mayernik, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital. Born on April 30, 1937 in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late John and Julia Babian Mayernik. Fred attended Harding High School in Bridgeport where he met the love of his life, Arlene. Fred served the country in the Army as a Cryptographer. In his youth, Fred enjoyed sports and excelled in baseball. He was part of the Bridgeport Little League Baseball team that in 1949, competed in the Little League World series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Fred and Arlene were members of Our Lady of Grace Church in Stratford, where Fred served as an Usher. Fred retired from Mechanics and Farmers Savings Bank in 1990 where he was Senior Vice President and Treasurer. Fred's motto was "You work hard, you play hard", and after retiring at the ripe young age of 53, he certainly followed that motto. During his retirement, Fred enjoyed trying his luck at the casino, taking trips with family and friends, working around his house, whether it be planting flowers, painting or tending to his pool. He enjoyed having family and friends over for pool parties, food and lots of fun. If he heard one of his favorite artist's music, he would break out in song, or get up and start dancing.

Fred met one his favorite singing groups 'Il Volo" in person after their concert at Mohegan Sun - just before Covid-19 restrictions went into effect. Fred enjoyed golf, his favorite baseball team the New York Mets and his favorite football team the New York Giants.

In addition to his beloved wife Arlene of 61 years, Fred is survived by his children, Debra Baker and her husband Walter of Stratford, Frederick Mayernik II and his fiancé Noreen Rinaldo of Stratford. Fred is also survived by his Grandchildren Allison Baker (his "Precious"), Cynthia Baker and Michael Baker, and several great grandchildren. Fred is also survived by his sister Jean Burns of Huntington, and his brother Raymond and his wife Stacy of Florida and Fred's many loving nieces and nephews. Fred's family and friends are forever grateful for the love and kindness and values that Fred provided and lived.

The family extends special thanks to the staff of Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Fairfield, Dr. Jerry Malefatto, Dr. Justin Persico, Renee and the ladies in the office for their love and care, Dr. David Jutkowitz, the staff of Bridgeport Hospital, and Darlene Merritt who provided loving care and support during times of need over the years.

Due to the concerns about social gatherings affecting us all at this time, funeral and interment services will be held privately for the immediate family. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
