Obituary of Carl Gustav Juthnas

Purple Heart Recipient Carl Gustav Bjarne Juthnas, age 65, of Trumbull, passed away from this world after a brief illness on October 17, 2011, with those who love him by his side. Carl was born in Tojby, Finland on November 1, 1945, son of Alfons Juthnas of Finland and the late Enid Linnea Strom Juthnas. Mr. Juthnas immigrated to the United States with his family when he was eight years old. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, he served in Vietnam, where he was seriously injured in combat and left with a lifelong disability. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Carl lived his life with quiet courage and was proud to have served his country. A mechanical engineer, he started his career with the Bullard Company in Bridgeport and also worked for the Bodine Company and Mikron in Monroe. Carl was active in the Scandinavian community and was a member of the Scandinavian Club in Fairfield and the Manhem Club in New York City. He enjoyed his life with friends and family and was admired by those who knew him. In addition to his father, left to treasure his memory are his beloved wife, Irene Karin Nohr, his children, Karl William Juthnas and his wife Karen of Fairfield and Carin Linnea Akerman and her husband Marc of Ridgefield, two grandchildren, Samantha and Chloe Juthnas, sister, Rosita Westerback and her companion, Neal Smith of Stratford, brother-in-law, Per-Erik Kronquist of Wilton, a sister-in-law, Helen Granskog and her husband Bror-Erik of Bridgeport as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he is pre-deceased by his sister Christina Kronquist. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. directly in First Church Congregational United Church of Christ, 148 Beach Rd., Fairfield. Interment with full military honors will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
