Obituary of Salvatore J. Gentile

Salvatore J. Gentile, age 82, of Stratford, beloved husband of Marie LaPenna Gentile, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 in St. Vincent’s Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on July 18, 1936, he was a son of the late Salvatore and Louisa Civitello Gentile and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Gentile was a metallurgist at Textron Lycoming for many years before his retirement. He was an avid bowler, softball player and golfer and also enjoyed coaching Pop Warner Football for the Holy Name Cardinals.

In addition to Marie, his wife of 58 years, survivors include a son Dwayne Gentile and a daughter, Donna Gentile, both of Stratford, two grandchildren, Jacob and Jason Gentile.

He was predeceased by a brother, Louis Gentile and three sisters, Theresa Russo, Angelina Jordamo and Josephine Rynkiewitz. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the 6th floor nurses and staff as well as the CHF Clinic at St. Vincent’s Medical Center for their excellent care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 212 Elizabeth St., Derby. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
