Obituary of Vincent R. Convertito, Sr.

Vincent R. Convertito, Sr., age 90, of Trumbull, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Sylvia Russo Convertito. Born in Bridgeport on October 1, 1928, Vincent was a son of the late Rafael and Palma Paternoster Convertito and was a longtime resident of Trumbull. Before his retirement he was a bricklayer with Local #1 of CT.

As a union bricklayer, Vin's craftsmanship can be seen at local fire stations and schools among countless other municipal and industrial buildings in the Greater Bridgeport area. His interests and hobbies were boundless as he was as eager to build his own cabinetry and furniture out of a busy workshop as he was to be found cooking at the stove or jarring his sought after eggplant. Vin would oversee some of the finest backyard gardens Trumbull has ever known, always boasting a variety of fine tomatoes. If you were lucky, you may have heard him play keyboard, but you were more likely to hear him speak up for his fellow blue collar residents at a Town Hall meeting. To know Vin was to know how much he enjoyed conversing with everyone in his travels, to know how well he cared for animals; how much he enjoyed a drive in his pick-up with a dog hanging out the passenger window. But above all, Vin Convertito was a family man. A faithful husband and providing father, an exceptional grandfather that passionately lived for his family. His greatest joys were always in seeing his grandchildren and great children laughing and playing. Great Grandpa Moon would be surrounded by his friends and family throughout all of his days. Through them, not only his stories but his exuberance lives on.

Survivors include his three loving children, Richard Convertito of Boulder, CO, Vincent Convertito, Jr. of Trumbull, and Pamela Marcucio of Myrtle Beach, SC, a loving and caring sister, Jean Macri of Trumbull, eight loving grandchildren, Danielle Kaplan (Michael), Vincent A. Convertito, Stephanie Marcucio, Dominique Forst (Ralph), Nicole Magee (Joseph), Marissa Gil (Manny), Noelle Marcucio and Jacquelyn Marcucio, three cherished great grandsons, Joseph Convertito, Vincent and Michael Magee, soon to be great granddaughter, Gianna Gill and former son-in-law, Chris Marcucio as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Paul, Michael and Joseph Convertito and sisters, Susan Valentine, Mary Ventriglia, Helen Tuozzoli and Mildred Kish.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to SARAH Rescue, P.O. Box 707, Stratford, CT 06615.
