Obituary of Robert Mackenzie

Robert (Bob) MacKenzie age 71, of Seymour, beloved husband of Elizabeth Grady MacKenzie, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital. Raised in Stratford, he was the son of the late Donald MacKenzie and Henrietta Jackson MacKenzie.

Having started his career as an airplane mechanic, he held a variety of jobs related to the field of transportation. He was a member of the Teamsters Union for over 20 years and mostly enjoyed driving a concrete truck. He also was an exceptional mechanic having learned from his father and his dear late friend John Goll, of Stratford, a Gasser class Drag Racer. He enjoyed restoring antique trucks and showing his various sports cars. He was especially proud of his 2012 Dodge Challenger. Bob was the recipient of a heart transplant 11 years ago and for a time volunteered for Donate Life CT. He was grateful to, and strived to honor his donor, Josh Moore of Delaware, Ohio, by living each day to the fullest.

In addition to his cherished wife of 21 years, survivors include his three loving children, Tamatha Marie MacKenzie of Seymour, Justin Donald MacKenzie and Zachary Lee MacKenzie, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and his treasured grandson Gabriel Lee MacKenzie. He was predeceased by his sister, Beverly Jean MacKenzie.

A memorial service will take place on Friday October 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Donate Life Connecticut, P.O. Box 278, Durham, CT 06422.
