Obituary of Brian D. Purdy

Brian D. Purdy, age 66, of Monroe, beloved husband of Cynthia (Sagorsky) Purdy, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 27, 2018. Born on February 7, 1952, he was a son of Anna Mae Shields of Park Forest, IL and the late Frank B. Purdy. A graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, he was a retired Manager of International Marketing & Sales for Canadian Pacific Railway, with 39 years of dedicated service. Brian was an active member in the AYSO community for nearly 25 years, serving as a coach, board member, referee and commissioner. He served as a member of the Monroe Board of Ethics and the Parks and Recreation Department. He loved to be in his garden tending to his flowers and tomato plants. He also enjoyed hiking, no matter what the weather. But above all his enjoyments and roles in life, none was greater than that of husband, father and grandfather. Affectionately known as "BP", he loved time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. The unconditional love he gave, and the memories created will always live in their hearts. BP will truly be missed by all.

In addition to his beloved wife of 43 years, Cindy, and his mother, survivors include four loving children, Kristen Smeraglino and her husband Dominic III of Monroe, Erin Purdy of South Norwalk, Sara Schwartzer and her husband Noah of Stratford, and Michael Purdy and his wife Erica of Seymour, four cherished grandchildren, Emma, Dominic IV, Ethan, and Hunter. He also leaves to cherish his memory two brothers, Kevin Purdy of IL. and Thomas Purdy and his long-time partner Teri of WI., a sister, Dee Dee Rickey and her husband Rick of IL., as well as many nieces and nephews, and brother and sisters-in-law. Brian was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Jimmy Purdy.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 3 – 7 p.m.
