Obituary of Josephine A. Garrett

Josephine A. Garrett, age 73, of Bridgeport, CT passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital with her loving husband by her side after a fiercely courageous battle with cancer. Jo was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 21, 1944 to the late Josephine R. Metzger (Swatko) and the late Christian W. Metzger and was the oldest of two children. Jo dedicated her life to caring for others, beginning with her little brother, then her mother and daughter, as well as countless others as a Registered Nurse.

She touched so many hearts and inspired her daughter to follow in her footsteps and become an RN herself, which was one of Jo's proudest moments. Jo retired from the State of Connecticut, Department of Developmental Services and enjoyed gardening, shopping and spending time with her husband. Above all else, Jo's greatest joy came from being with her granddaughters. They were the light of her life.

Jo is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, William, her dear brother, Chris of Springfield, OR, her loving and devoted daughter and best friend, Kimberly and her husband Greg of Trumbull, CT and her precious and cherished granddaughters, Mackenzie Minor, Emma Siemon, and Shelby Jo Siemon, who will all miss her tremendously.

A celebration of Jo's life will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Unitarian Church in Westport, CT. Jo's request was that everyone in attendance wear florals or cheerful colors to her memorial.
