Obituary of Filomena LaBruzzo

Filomena (Leila) Shallo LaBruzzo, age 100, of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Santo LaBruzzo, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in the Bronx, NY on December 6, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Jerry and Josephine Narducci Shallo.

Leila worked in the school cafeteria at St. Francis of Assisi and was employed 19 years by the City of New York District Council 37. She took great pride and satisfaction in preparing lunch for the children. She loved to dance and knit. A true mother in every sense, Leila knitted sweaters for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Affectionately known as Nonna, spending time with her family was the most precious thing to her. The memories and unconditional love will always live in their hearts. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her two loving children a daughter, Angela Wax of Trumbull and a son, Carmelo (Carl) LaBruzzo and his wife JoAnn of Briarcliff Manor, NY, five cherished grandchildren, Philip Wax III (Kristin), Kristen Rubush (Mark), Jeannine Wax, Cari DeRose (Cesare) and Cortnee Gentile (Hans) and Laura Wax, 11 adored great grandchildren, Cubby, Tyler, Brooke, Dana, Rebecca, James, Sabrina, Gia, Juliana, Kiera, and Gemma. She also leaves to cherish her memory three dedicated brothers, Louis Shallo, Jerry Shallo and James Shallo and his wife Rose all of New York, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by seven brothers, Pat, John, Joe, Luke, Alfred, Anthony and Tony.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, New York. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m.
