Obituary of Joaquim Alves Dias

Joaquim (Jack) Alves Dias, age 84, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Maria Pereira Dias, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 7, 2018 with his devoted family by his side. Born on May 13, 1933 in Torgueda, Vila Real, Portugal, he was a son of the late Bento Alves Dias and Teresa Goncalves. Joaquim was a laborer working for many area companies and was a member of the Laborers Local 665.

Jack emigrated to the United states in 1966 settling in Bridgeport before moving to Trumbull. He loved tending to his garden, making wine with his family and playing cards at Solmar Restaurant with his friends. But most of all he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He valued time spent with his family and the memories and love they shared will continue to live on in their hearts forever. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife of 62 years Maria, survivors include two loving children, John Dias and his wife Katherine, of Long Island, NY and Maria Julia Esteves and her husband Carlos of Trumbull, eight cherished grandchildren, Nicole, Paul (Priya), John, Daniel, Matthew (Amanda), Joseph, Jason, and Ashley, two adored great grandchildren, Jack and Zara, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Jose Dias and sisters and brothers, Ana, Joaquina, Joao, Bento, Victor and Jose.

Funeral services will take place on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
