Obituary of Dominick J. Mariconda
Dominick J. Mariconda, age 95, of Stratford, beloved husband of 74 years to the late Eleanor J. Donofrio Mariconda, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 9, 2018 with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on February 21, 1923, he was a son of the late Tomasso and Vincenza Rutolo Mariconda and was a longtime resident of Stratford. Dominick was proud to have served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. Before his retirement he was a music supervisor with the Bridgeport and Stratford Public School Systems in addition to being an active professional musician his entire life. He played in many bands in the Bridgeport area including the Gene Hull's Jazz Giants, the Stratford Community Band, The Star Dusters, and the New Editions to name a few. He was very involved at St. Mark's Church in Stratford where he served as music director for many years. His greatest enjoyment was the time he spent with his family.
Survivors include four loving children, Marilyn Salerno and her husband Andrew of MA, Gail Iassogna and her husband Robert of Stratford, Paul Mariconda and his wife Susan of Norwalk and Peter Mariconda and his wife Amy of Stratford, two sisters, Shirley Toth and her husband Richard of Southington Jean Guidone of TX, five cherished grandchildren, Timothy and Jeffrey Iassogna, Melissa Reed and David and Michael Salerno and five adored great grandchildren, Kayla, Ashley, Andrew, Katherine and Skyler Rose as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Salvatore, Nicholas and Thomas Mariconda and three sisters, Mary Mattola, Anna Esposito and Tina Peters.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment with full military honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the DAV – Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
