Obituary of Ernest Knecht
Ernest A. Knecht, age 87, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Center surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne C. Hickey Knecht. Born in Trumbull on December 24, 1930, he was a son of the late Walter and Helen Osterberg Knecht. Mr. Knecht was proud to have served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War before his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant. A talented carpenter and gifted woodworker, he later became the superintendent of E&F Construction and THP Construction before his retirement with 45 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Washington Lodge #19 and the Freemasons A.F.A.M. for many years, where he built numerous lasting relationships. He also was a volunteer firefighter in Trumbull for many years. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his six loving children, Ellen Litwinovich and her husband Paul of Trumbull, Sharon Zimmerman and her husband Scott of Stratford, Laura Logan and her husband Brian of Monroe, Stephen Knecht and his wife Susan of Wallingford, Neil Knecht and his wife Susan of Monroe and Valerie Knecht of Stratford, his brother, David Knecht and his wife Smilie of Monroe, his sisters-in-law, Jane Knecht, Shirley Knecht and Jessie Knecht as well as his cherished ten grandchildren and adored six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Jeanne, he was also predeceased by his sister, Edith Vitale and brothers, Elliott, Lester and George Knecht.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in Trumbull Congregational Church, 3115 Reservoir Ave., Trumbull. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
