Sandra D’Amicol Casablanca, age 76, of Shelton, beloved wife of the late Joseph Casablanca Sr., died peacefully on Friday, February 2, 2018 with her family by her side. Born in Bridgeport on October 31, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William and Julia Cherick D’Amicol. In her early years, Sandy was professionally trained as an operatic soprano and as a hair stylist. She worked very hard in her free time to earn an Associate’s Degree from Charter Oak College in Sociology. She loved working at her various jobs, which included People’s Bank, Fairfield University, and The Bargain News. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her family at the donut shop and was honored to fill countless requests to sing Ave Maria for family and friends. Sandra was a devout Catholic and faithfully attended daily mass at SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, Bridgeport. She was a member of the Franciscan Third Order of The Immaculate, known lovingly as Sister Mary Veronica Therese of the Immaculate Heart of Mary & the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She took on leadership roles while a member of the Blue Army, and ran various errands for and prayed often with the sisters of the Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity for many years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be truly missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her devoted children, a son, Dr. Domenic Casablanca and his wife, Donna, of Oxford, two daughters, Karen Bonitatebus and her husband, Anthony, of Shelton, and Angela Casablanca of Shelton; six grandchildren, Domenic, Jr., Alexa, Kathryn and Anthony Casablanca, Jordyn and Anthony Bonitatebus, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Joseph (Joey Bags) Casablanca and brother-in-law, Sebastian Casablanca and his wife Mariann.
