Obituary of Susan C. Collier

The Lord has reached out his hands and taken Susan home. Susan Costanzo Collier, age 94, of Brookfield and formerly of Trumbull, beloved wife of the late Palmer F. Collier Jr., passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2017 surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in Bridgeport on November 18, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Luigi and Carmela DiGruttola Costanzo.

After her marriage to Palmer in 1949, she chose the worthiest of all careers, that of wife and mother. Her life was devoted to the needs of her family. She was active in her community, working with the Girl Scouts and filling the position of Charter President of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 10201 in Brookfield. Susan's family would like to thank the excellent staff at Filosa Nursing Home, Danbury, for their loving care of Susan over the last few years; especially Bien, Rodrigo, Bea, Ollie, Sharon, Stacey and Allison.

Survivors include two loving children, a daughter, Pamela DePaoli and her husband Michael of Brookfield, a son, Palmer Collier III and his wife Carrie of Florida, three cherished grandchildren, Luke, Rae and Dana, an adored great-granddaughter, Maiya Sofia, a brother, John Silva of CA, sisters, Louise Cavallaro of Orange and Teresa Schiro and her husband Anthony of New York, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her second husband Benjamin Falkowski, an infant son, John Gordon and a sister, Mary Cubelli.

All funeral services were held privately, and burial took place in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Susan was a firm believer in higher education, therefore, those desiring may make memorial donations to an education fund to benefit her great-granddaughter Maiya. Donations may be made through the funeral director. Arrangements entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT 06611.
