Obituary of Joseph A. DeDonato Sr.

Joseph A. DeDonato, Sr., age 88, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Elaine Mezick DeDonato. Born in Bridgeport on June 20, 1929, he was a son of the late Philip and Florence Cerino DeDonato. Mr. DeDonato worked as a plasterer for the IUBAC Local 1 for many years before his retirement in 1994, even though he continued to work into his eighties. Joseph was always the life of the party, he loved to dance with his life long dance partner Elaine and often shared his great gift of story telling. Early on, he was greatly involved with Trumbull Pop Warner Football, Little League Baseball as well as the Trumbull Italian Club where he established many long lasting friendships. He enjoyed sculpting and molding and also found great enjoyment traveling with his wife before her passing. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and New York Giants, attended every sporting event his sons played in as well as many of his grandchildren. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his three sons, Dr. Joseph A. DeDonato, Jr. and his wife Wendy of Lakeville, John DeDonato and his wife Alice of Fairfield and David DeDonato and his wife Susan of Monroe, his seven loving grandchildren, Kara, Brian, Bilan, John, Christian, Ava and Olivia, his sister, Lucille D'Angelo and his brother, Francis DeDonato, both of Shelton as well as many special nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Elaine, he was also predeceased by his brother, Michael DeDonato. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
