Obituary of Susan Marie Almounayer

Susan Marie Knapp Almounayer, age 45, of North Carolina and formerly of Monroe, CT beloved wife of Dr. Muhammad Karim Almounayer, passed away suddenly on July 11, 2017 at her home. Born in Bridgeport on December 14, 1971, she was a daughter of Mary Alice Casazza Knapp of Monroe and the late Raymond W. Knapp Jr. A graduate of Masuk High School and Bullard Havens Nursing Program, Susan proudly earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Prior to relocating to North Carolina, Susan was a compassionate and nurturing nurse at St. Vincent's Medical Center. Susan was loved by many and will be remembered fondly for her quick wit and one liners which brought forth laughter and joy to all. It was Susan's bright and jovial personality that allowed her to maintain lifelong connections with her classmates from St. Jude's School in Monroe. In addition to her beloved husband of 13 years, Karim, and her mother, survivors include two cherished and adored children, Adam and Zachariah Almounayer, brothers and sisters, David Knapp of Waterbury, Kevin Knapp and his wife Jill of Acworth, GA, Karen Knapp Kmec and her husband Matthew of Wolcott and Cathleen Knapp of Waterbury, maternal grandmother, Mary Alice "Allie" Casazza of Tewksbury, MA, nephews, Brayden, Jackson, Logan, Liam, and Hadi, mother-in-law, Maisaa Almounayer of Syria, sisters-in-law, Jouman Almounayer Dadarwish and her husband Samir of Germany, and Nawar Almounayer of Syria, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Ali Almounayer. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Jude Church, 707 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Food Bank, 980 Monroe Tpke., Monroe, CT 06468.
