Obituary of Joyce Coscia
Joyce Bernstein Coscia, age 87, beloved wife of the late Francis J. Coscia, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016 in Fairfield CT surrounded by her loving family and in the exceptional care of her friends at the Jewish Home for the Elderly. Born on March 4, 1928, Mrs. Coscia was a daughter of the late Max Bernstein and Laura Gorman Bernstein. She was raised in Brooklyn, NY. Joyce and her family spent summers in Milford, CT where she met her husband. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt, sister and friend. Joyce was an excellent cook. She prepared countless wonderful meals for her friends and family to share together. She taught all of her children to enjoy cooking so that they could carry on the tradition of love through food. Joyce loved music, movies, watching sports, especially the New York Yankees and spending time at the ocean. She was an avid reader who continued to enjoy books in her later years by listening to audio books generously made available through the Connecticut State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she never tired of talking about all of their accomplishments to those around her.
Joyce graduated from Milford High School and worked for many years as a legal secretary for Bridgeport area law firms.
She is survived by a daughter, Laurie Coscia Quatrella and her husband David Quatrella of Trumbull, two sons, Nicholas F. Coscia of Cardiff, CA and Daniel Coscia of Sherman Oaks, CA, four grandchildren, Daniel and Allie Quatrella and Francis and Daniel Coscia as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Albert and Mel Bernstein.
A Memorial Mass celebrating her life will take place on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. There will be no calling hours and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Connecticut State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, 198 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
