Obituary of Steve S. Szygiel

Steve S. Szygiel, age 62, of Trumbull, beloved husband of JoAnn Strazza Szygiel, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2015 at Yale New Haven Hospital after a long and courageous 12 year battle with cancer. Born in Port Chester, NY on June 16, 1953, he was a son of the late Mieczyslaw and Zofia Woloszyn Szygiel and was a graduate of Port Chester Senior High School. A U.S. Army veteran, Steve was currently employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a mail handler with 33 years of dedicated service. He was an avid fan of the New York Mets and New York Jets. His faith was very important to him, Steve was a dedicated parishioner at St. Theresa Church in Trumbull. But above all he was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his beloved wife JoAnn of 39 years, survivors include his three loving children, Stephen A. Szygiel of Trumbull, Laura Ann Gaylord and her husband James (Jimbo) of Portland, ME and Amy O'Hagan and her husband Sean of Westfield, IN, his two cherished grandchildren, Sophie and Jack O'Hagan; two brothers, John Szygiel and his wife Lisa of Milford and Michael Szygiel and his wife Tricia of Stratford, as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 8:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 9:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
