I unfortunately happened upon this obituary when trying to find Kathy's whereabouts online--she has been in my mind for many years, but the last time I saw her was probably in the late 80s. Kathy was one of the purest hearts I've ever known. I met her when I was a freshman at St. Joseph College, and she was just light and joy to look at her. Her smile brightened every room. I remember how much she loved snow and Christmas--I remember her singing the soundtrack to the 1970 movie The Christmas Carol with gusto. She was the natural choice to be the Freshman Chair of the annual college Christmas Tree contest--and we, of course, won. But her optimism was not a naive one--she was passionate and serious about things that mattered to her.. and her smile might disappear for a while, but her eyes were searching and curious and wondering all the time about life and God. She always spoke so lovingly of her mom and dad, and I remember her talking about her dad's beautiful roses. Kathy was a rose among thorns in this life, and I will always remember her with gratitude for the small part of my life that was privileged to be part of hers.

I was a friend of Kathy's through St. Theresa's Church and the Cursillo movement. She was a kind and beautiful spirit inside and out. I was so sorry to hear of her passing. We live in Indiana now and did not hear about her death until after she had passed. Please express my condolences to her father. And may God rest her soul. Cindy Starks

Kathy was a wonderful teacher, person and friend. Her kindness and truly loving attitude will not be forgotten by anyone who knew her. It was my pleasure to teach with her and call her friend for many years. She will be missed, but I know Heaven will be enriched by her beautiful voice and guitar playing. RIP, dear Snowflake. Love you.

Dear Sis, I am sorry I was not there is person to be around you during your struggle but rest assured I was there in spirit. You are the first person I befriended when I came to the US in August of 1982 and while people come and go constantly in our lives, you always remained my good friend, so much so you became my first child’s godmother. You were always a good friend through good and bad times. We laughed and cried together and no matter what paths we took we remained as brother and sister. I am saddened by your departure from our world, we all are; however we truly celebrate your new beginning with Jesus. Your godson summed it up this morning “Someone like Aunt Kathy is sure to be in a better place” and you are. We will miss you but your fond memories will be with us forever. In parting I want to share my most favorite passage. The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. I was blessed to know Kathy through Cursillo. I served with her on a Women's weekend a few years ago. I am SO glad I was part of the group who sang to Kathy at her home last Saturday! Her sweet, kind, gentle way will surely be missed. Enjoy your 5th Day, Kathy--we love you!
