Obituary of George J. Banas

U.S. Navy Veteran George J. Banas, Jr., age 83, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Mary Faustine Banas, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at the Hospital for Special Care in New Britain. Born in Bridgeport on Easter Day, April 20, 1924, he was a son of the late George and Anna Kascak Banas. George spent his childhood in Bridgeport before moving to Trumbull where he established his family. George was a U. S. Navy Veteran who served his country during World War II and also in the Korean War. George started his insurance career in 1956 with Nationwide and established the Banas Agency. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Catholic War Veterans. George was an assistant scout master for St. Catherine of Sienas Troop #167 and a member of the Bridgeport Historical Society. He enjoyed world travel and made friends wherever he went. He spent many wonderful summers in Cape Cod with his family in Barnstable, MA. Having recently celebrated 60 years of marriage, George will be sadly missed by his devoted wife and four children, Jane Higgins and her husband James of Huntington, Robert Banas and his wife Teresa of Mystic, George Banas and his wife Elaine of Hamden and David Banas and his wife Christine of Trumbull, nine grandchildren, James, Katherine, Sarah, Mary, Nicholas, Matthew, Christopher, Laura and Andrew. Additional family members include several brothers and sisters in law as well as nieces and nephews. George was pre-deceased by his brother, Joseph Banas. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull.
