Obituary of James A. Banas

James A. Banas, age 78, of Shelton, beloved husband of Joan Langdon Banas, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 in St. Vincent Medical Center, Bridgeport. Born in Bridgeport on September 28, 1933, he was a son of the late Andrew and Anna Suhanovsky Banas. James was a graduate of St. Ann Grammar School, Bassick High School and received a Bachelors Degree from Quinnipiac University in 1960. A dedicated employee for the City of Bridgeport for over 40 years, his titles included, Assistant Comptroller serving under Mayors Panuzzio, Mandanici and Curran and also was an accountant for the Bridgeport City Employee Credit Union. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed golfing, studying World War II history and cooking for his family. He loved basketball and played with St. Ann School and for the Y Sportsmen. James was a very outgoing and loving person who would always be there to lend a hand to anyone in need. But above all he was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who put the care and love of his family first. He will truly be missed. In addition to his beloved wife of 51 years, Joan, survivors include three loving children, Linda Banas-Sanchez and her husband Don of Milford, David Banas and Richard James Banas, both of Bridgeport, a cherished granddaughter Jessica Sanchez; a sister Dorothy Kenney of Trumbull, as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves his feline companions, Maddie and Lacey. Funeral Information A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Anns Church, 481 Brewster St. Bridgeport. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you please do a kind deed for someone who needs it.
