Obituary of Daniel M. Dunn
U.S. Navy Veteran
Daniel M. Dunn, age 73, of Stratford, died peacefully on Friday April 4, 2008 at his residence in Oronoque Village surrounded by his loving family. Born in the Bronx on January 9, 1935, he was a son of the late Frederick and Margaret McDonald Dunn. Mr. Dunn was a retired Criminal Agent for the U.S. Treasury Department where he worked for over 20 years and he also served seven years of service with the U.S. Navy. For over 10 years with the Treasury Department, he worked undercover on projects throughout the country involving organized crime, as well as on projects ranging from posing as a money launderer for a drug cartel to posing as a bookie in Las Vegas.
Mr. Dunn had an exuberant spirit and a zest for life. He had a genuine interest in people which drew them to him. He was a gentle practical joker as many people can attest. Mr. Dunn was a friend of Bill Wilson for 32 years, during which time he sponsored many people drawing on his deep Christian faith and commitment. At Oronoque Village, Dan was a past president of the Oronoque Village Tax District Board. He enjoyed serving on the board of the Village Mens Club. He had a passion for swimming and intrigued people as he swam endless laps at Oronoque and at the Huntington Community Center pool. Mr. Dunn had a deep love for his alma mater, the College of the Holy Cross, serving as class agent for the class of 1956 for over 30 years. For the 50th reunion, he led the fund raising effort for his class which set a 50th reunion record of $8.26 million for the college. Survivors include his beloved wife, Karen Hahn, four loving children, Daniel M. Dunn, Jr. and his wife Gabrielle of Montclair NJ, Christopher Dunn and his wife Adriana of Summit NJ., Patricia Janik and her husband Kenneth of Milford and David Neal of South Carolina, a brother Jack Dunn and his wife Mary of West Islip New York, a sister, Ellen Dunn of Trumbull, eight cherished grandchildren, Aidan, Maureen, Melissa, Catherine and Julia Dunn and Emily, Abigail and Meredith Janik as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will take place on Tuesday, April 7, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Mark Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
